SOCCER NEWS - Raul Stars FC strengthened its hold at the top of the George Local Football Association (Geolfa) Promotional League with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Celtics FC at Lawaaikamp Stadium on Saturday.
The Celtics had the sharper start and took the lead through Vuyisani Mfengu after applying pressure early on. Achuma Duna doubled the advantage, leaving Raul Stars with a mountain to climb.
The league leaders responded before the break when Thulani Sontashe pulled a goal back, reducing the deficit to 2-1 at half-time.
Raul Stars returned with renewed determination in the second half and found the equaliser through Lilitha Jantjies.
With both sides creating chances in an end-to-end contest, Thulani Zakade struck the decisive goal in the closing stages to complete an impressive comeback and secure all three points.
The victory sees Raul Stars remain at the summit of the league standings with 66 points from 25 matches, while the Celtics are ninth on 32 points.
Off the field, Raul Stars expressed their appreciation to the Johannesburg-based Pika Tech Solutions and Engineering Consulting Company for its continued support of the club. The company, owned by the Thembalethu-born Ayanda 'Kapi' Gantsu, has played a significant role in supporting the team and contributing to community development.
