SOCCER NEWS - Raul Stars FC punished Eastern City with 3-1 in an exciting Geolfa Promotional League fixture at the Lawaaikamp Stadium on Sunday afternoon, 1 June.
Siyabonga Aseni (brace) and Thulani Sontashe netted the three goals for Raul Stars and Likho Nazo the one for Eastern City.
Raul Stars is currently logged at fourth position on the log table with 46 points.
The struggling Eastern City are languishing right at the bottom with nine points.
Building up for the big moves
The game got off to a good start as Eastern City built up for some moves from the centre half.
Eastern City, the candidate for relegation, opened the score at 1-0 within five minutes of the match, putting the pressure on Raul Stars.
Raul Stars kept on pressing in the first 20 minutes of the encounter, grinding for their equalising goal. They were rewarded with their first goal after some poor communication from Eastern City’s backline.
The young boys of Eastern City were defending the strong attack from the Raul Stars wingers. Raul Stars employed their pace on the wings - Aseni scored his brace, extending their lead to 2-1.
When the whistle blew, the score was still 2-1, Eastern City trailing into the break.
Creating more chances
The second half saw both teams looking very sharp on the ball - creating more chances on the wings.
Eastern City received a free kick, but Raul Stars’ shot-stopper made a brilliant save, forcing a corner kick for the struggling side Eastern City, but again they failed to convert their chance.
Raul Stars’ Sontashe converted the third goal, making it 3-1 during the last moments of the game. The Eastern City players tried their best to come back, but it was not easy to break through Raul Stars’ backline.
