FOOTBALL NEWS - A superb performance in the second half secured a 3-0 victory for Black Cats over Simunye in an entertaining regional league game on Saturday 27 January at the Lawaaikamp Stadium. Xolani Mandla, Luyanda Laho and Lunga Jantjies netted the goals for log leaders Black Cats.
When these two teams meet, they always go all out and the excitement of the supporters could be felt across the field. The sensational 17-year-old winger Mavi Sandiso (Black Cats) gave an excellent performance on the flanks.
Black Cats are currently at the top of the regional league log table.
The game got off to a good start with Black Cats playing the ball on the ground. The fast Nkosiyabo Toto of Black Cats attacked on the left side of the field, but his shot was defended by Simunye. Simunye received a corner kick, but it was cleared away by the Black Cats back line.
The game sprang to life after 25 minutes with Black Cats leading the attack and Xolani Mandla scored his first goal to make it 1-0.
Simunye tried to score an equalising goal, but Shane-Lee Windvogel's strike went wide. When the whistle blew for half time, the score was 1-0 for Black Cats. The second half started at a fast pace with both teams picking up their game.
Simunye took a powerful strike, but their shot went wide. Simunye received a free kick but again failed to score the equalising goal.
A long-range shot from Lwazi Mkhetho of Simunye inside the box was stopped by a Black Cats defender. Luyanda Laho of Black Cats beat Nkosikhona Moss to score the second goal, making it 2-0. Simunye went all out to equalise, but could not break through the stubborn defence of Black Cats.
Black Cats kept up the pressure and Lunga Jantjies netted the third goal in the last five minutes of the match, clinching the game for Cats.
