SOCCER NEWS - The Phelandaba outfit Paris United FC beat Raul Stars 1-0 in a tough Geolfa Promotional League encounter at the Maraiskamp Stadium in Parkdene on Sunday afternoon, 4 May.
With 42 points, Paris United is currently logged on top of the Geolfa Promotional League, while Raul Stars are second.
Anele 'Jali' Pungwana netted the only goal of the game. Thamsanqa 'Torres' Kebe delivered a solid performance.
The top-of-the-table clash started on fire as both teams were hunting for the first goal.
Raul Stars were using their pace on the ball to create more opportunities, while Paris United relied on the speed of Anele Pungwana and Kebe to break through the Raul Stars' backline.
Pungwana registered the first goal, making it 1-0. Sivuyisiwe Ntini, the Raul Stars' centre back, gave an outstanding performance to block Paris United.
Paris United started the second half at a high tempo - building their passes from the centre of the field. Raul Stars players Zuko Matume, Mpho Joka and Thulani Zakade were playing combined touches, trying to penetrate through the Paris United backline.
Matume missed an opportunity to score when his set piece kick from the centre of the field went over the woodwork. Both teams were playing forward touches going straight into the box, but failed to convert their opportunities in the second half.
Raul Stars' head coach, Nyameko Ntshingwa, told George Herald that with a number of games remaining, he believes his side will fight till the last fixture of the season, after having dropping a crucial six points over the weekend. He is convinced his players would work harder and fight for the play-offs spot.
