SOCCER NEWS - George's representative in the Safa Eden Regional Men's League, Fast Eleven, recently sank the Sea Birds 2-1 in a fixture at Thembalethu Stadium.
Mkhanyisi Manciya and Zefanias Mabunda contributed the two winning goals for Fast Eleven, while Abongile Mali netted the solitary goal for the Sea Birds.
The fixture got off to a positive note with both sides playing the ball on the ground and Fast Eleven attacking on the flanks. Manciya opened the score, making it 1-0. The Mossel Bay players were trying to get an equaliser, but Fast Eleven absorbed the pressure well, building their passes from the centre of the field.
The Sea Birds took the game from Fast Eleven just before half-time and Mali levelled the score, making it 1-1.
The second half saw the Sea Birds players pushing on the left side. Aphelele Jende of the Sea Birds missed a chance inside the box.
Mabunda extended Fast Eleven's lead to 2-1 with a powerful shot inside the box. Mali tried his luck on attack, but just missed the equalising ball.
Bandile Ketelo, Sea Birds' head coach, said his team started the game well, but they hadn't played for a long time and became fatigued. He had praise for his young player, Besana Tsepang (16), whom he believes will go far.
In their second game, Fast Eleven beat the newcomers, Flying Eagles, 1-0.
