SOCCER NEWS - For the first time in junior football, CCK Legacy from Cape Town co-hosted a development soccer tournament with Southern Academy FC from Thembalethu at the Lawaaikamp Stadium in George last weekend.
In the U16 division, CCK Legacy was crowned the champions of the tournament after beating Raul Stars 0(5)-0(4) on penalty shoot-outs.
During the U16 semi-finals, CCK Legacy sank Burning Fire 3-0, and Raul Stars beat Heaven Stars 0(5)-0(4) on penalty shoot-outs.
In the U13 division, again CCK Legacy went home with a gold medal after beating Heaven Stars 4-0 in the final game.
In the semi-finals, CCK Legacy defeated Southern Academy 5-1, while Heaven Stars punished Raul Stars 2-0.
The six teams that participated in this year's festival are CCK Legacy (Cape Town), Southern Academy, Raul Stars, Heaven Stars, Burning Fire and Fast Eleven.
Southern Academy's chairperson, Nkosikhona Maseti, expressed his gratitude to every team that participated and welcomed the visitors from Cape Town with warm hospitality.
He thanked the match officials, media and co-ordinators who made the event successful, saying that their support demonstrated that this community really values grassroots-level football and that they must keep on presenting initiatives like this to bring football to the level it deserves to be.
