SOCCER NEWS - The George Black Cats women's soccer team secured third place in the Safa Eden Regional Women's League for the 2024/25 season with 13 points from eight matches: four wins, one draw and three losses.
In their final game at Loerie Park in Knysna on Saturday, the Black Cats played to a hard-fought 0-0 draw against league champions Southern Stars ladies (20 points).
The match, played in chilly rain, saw both teams create chances - Southern Stars started strongly, but couldn't break through, while the Black Cats hit the woodwork multiple times through wing play.
Earlier they had collected valuable points against Plett's Royal Crusaders.
Coach Whayn Windwaai praised his team's spirit and dominance in phases, despite the tough conditions. "We played very well and were ready. With this teamwork and talented young players, we'll go far," he said, expressing pride in earning four points away from home.
The draw capped a respectable season for the Black Cats, who represented George proudly on the regional stage.
