GEORGE NEWS - The Geolfa League Heritage Tournament kicked off last weekend with 32 teams competing. The tournament is played at the Lawaaikamp and Thembalethu stadiums and the final will be on 24 September.
On Saturday 14 September, Black Cats triumphed 2-0 over Burning Fire at Thembalethu Stadium with Siphamandla Hlangabeza and Nkosiyabo Toto scoring the goals.
Black Cats controlled the game from the start, building their attacks through Tsepo Mbenyane and Mzwanele Jwaqa, with support from Xolani Mandla. A penalty awarded allowed Hlangabeza to score the first goal. Burning Fire had a chance to equalise, also with a penalty, but Zizipho Mtyukwini's shot was saved by the Black Cats goalkeeper. Toto added the second goal for Black Cats with a powerful strike.
Both teams created scoring opportunities during the second half, but failed to turn them into goals.
In another exciting match, Abahlali FC defeated Rio Legends 4-2. Though Rio Legends took an early lead, Abahlali relentlessly attacked and ultimately claimed a convincing win. The tournament continues with more thrilling matches leading up to the final.
