GEORGE NEWS - Black Cats Football Club missed the opportunity to collect three points at home in the Western Cape ABC Motsepe League stream A on Saturday afternoon, 2 April, at the Lawaaikamp Stadium.
They played a 1-1 draw against Royal Blues from Central Karoo with the two goals netted by Luyanda Laho of Black Cats and Kweli Shadrack of Royal Blues.
Both teams are sitting at the bottom of the log, battling for survival in the relegation zone. Black Cats allowed Royal Blues to come back into the game causing Black Cats defenders to panic. They scored their equalising goal from offensive play from the centre of the field.
Black Cats left back Ryan Gcuwa played very well, delivering dangerous crosses from the left side of the field. Royal Blues goalkeeper Vlok Floors managed to prevent a second goal for the home side.
Black Cats dominated the first half. Mivuyo "Shandu" Ngubo of Black Cats delivered two powerful strikes inside the box, but both were cleared away by Royal Blues defence. Black Cats players Melisizwe Mbomvana and Xolani Mandla also tried their luck, but were unsuccessful.
The team's perseverance paid off when Luyanda "The Evergreen" Laho netted a goal which saw the home team in the lead with a score of 1-0 at the end of the first half.
The second half saw Royal Blues coming back with Kweli Shadrack scoring an equalising goal after scrappy defence by Black Cats. Royal Blues' big man Malgas Leonard later drove in a long-range shot from the left side of the field, but his strike went wide.
Despite Black Cats throwing in their full weight with attempts by the sensational Wanda Mkhosi, Amimu Hussein and Lunga Jantjies, they didn't manage to score a winning goal. Lukhona Ntulo missed the last chance of the game when his strike went over the cross bar during the last five minutes.
