CRICKET NEWS - Abahlali FC put on a solid performance when they sank All Stars 3-2 in a tough Geolfa Promotional League encounter at the Lawaaikamp Stadium in George on Sunday afternoon, 6 April.
Ndyebo Ngcwangu (brace) and Thabo Sizani contributed the three vital goals for them, while Siyavuya Ketelo and Siviwe Mankayi scored for the All Stars team.
With 29 points, Abahlali FC is fighting for the top five positions in the Geolfa Promotional League table. Meanwhile, All Stars logged a third position, pushing for the top spot after accumulating 32 points.
In the game, Siphelo Matiya, Abahlali FC's offensive athlete, showed a stellar performance during their game against All Stars.
Launching strong attack
The Geolfa League encounter got off to a good start as Abahlali launched a strong attack, trying to get their first goal.
Siphamandla Dani tried his luck on the right side of the field, but his solo effort hit the woodwork. Ndyebo Ngcwangu opened the score at 1-0, putting his side on the lead after his powerful shot inside the box.
All Stars players were chasing the game, grinding for their equalising goal. However, Abahlali took the game - Thabo Sizani extended their lead to 2-0 after delivering a powerful strike on the left side.
The Stars' backline was struggling to defend against the speedy wingers of Abahlali FC - Ndyebo Ngcwangu scored his brace to make it 3-0 after the delightful pass played in by Siphelo Matiya on the right side.
All Stars were pushing every ball they could in front of the box looking for their first goal.
Siyavuya Ketelo netted the first one, making it 3-1.
Both teams were playing enterprising football going straight into the box, the All Stars team trailing into the break.
Looking very sharp
The second half of the game saw both teams looking very sharp on the ball.
Abahlali missed more opportunities in the second half. All Stars changed gear, attacking the wingers, trying to get more chances.
Amnkele Ketelo scored the second goal, making it 3-2 after set play from the left side of the field.
The entertaining Geolfa Provincial League encounter ended 3-2. Abahlali FC went home with the bragging rights after beating All Stars in a Zone 9 derby.
