GEORGE NEWS - The Zone 9-based outfit Abahlali surprised an-on form Fast Eleven with a 3-1 victory in a Geolfa League fixture on Sunday afternoon at the Lawaaikamp Stadium.
The evergreen Fanele Chele, Eaona Mpongoshe and Siphelo Matiya scored the three goals for Abahlali, while Jongikhaya Myana netted the only goal for Fast Eleven.
Fast Eleven had a disappointing weekend, losing two games and dropping important points in the race. With 55 points, Fast Eleven is third on the log and battling for the play-offs spot. They have played 29 fixtures with 17 wins, four draws and eight defeats. Abahlali are fifth with two remaining fixtures after accumulating 54 points.
The game got off to a good start with Fast Eleven pushing for the first chance to score. Fast Eleven caught Abahlali's defence napping and netted their first goal within the first five minutes.
With Abahlali playing the ball on the flanks, Fanele Chele received a pass from the centre of the field and broke through Fast Eleven's backline to score, making it 1-1. Abahlali made another attempt with Endinako Sishuba on the left side and Siphelo Matiya on the right side using their strengths to beat Fast Eleven's defence, but their kick missed the goal.
Esona Mpongoshe put Abahlali into the lead after an excellent cross played in by Endinako Sishuba from the left side.
Fast Eleven were using their physical strength on the field with Ndumiso Ndaba controlling the tempo. The first half ended 2-1 with Fast Eleven trailing into the break.
The second half saw both teams playing the ball on the ground, with Abahlali showing great ball skills.
Pressing for the equalising goal, Fast Eleven's Endinako Sishuba tried a shot at the goal but it was saved by goalkeeper Mihlali Siko.
Abahlali received a penalty after a foul inside the box. Siphelo Mantiya earned his moment of fame when he scored, securing them a 3-1 win.
