CRICKET NEWS - Sussex made a big statement in the SWD Premier League competition with a 101 bonus point victory against Pacaltsdorp United as the two powerhouses locked horns at the D’Almeida sportsfield on Saturday.
Sussex posted 201 thanks to a fine knock by Lindle Trim (64), after which the home team dismissed Pacaltsdorp United for 100 with Franco Geldenhuys bagging 4/21.
Despite a half century by Neil Jordan (85), George (137 all out) lost by seven wickets against the Knysna Cavaliers (138/3) at Loerie Park. The captain, JP Ellis - 3/17 with the ball and 45 with the bat - was the hero for the Cavaliers.
At the Bridgton Sport Grounds, the Union Stars I (126/7) consolidated their position at the top of the log with a three-wicket victory against their Oudtshoorn neighbours, the Harlequins Forces (125 all out).
Lee Henry Meyer (4/36) was the top wicket taker for Union Stars I.
Union Stars II (138 all out) won by 38 runs against New Dawn Park (115 all out). For Union Stars II, Elridge Booysen (60 with the bat) and Jean Bruiners (6/19 with the ball) were the stand-out players.
