CRICKET NEWS - A brilliant spin bowling spell by Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers leg-spinner, Thomas Kaber, secured a comprehensive five-wicket bonus point victory for the Badgers in an away fixture against the Mpumalanga Rhinos in White River on Tuesday.
The Badgers bounced back after a heart-breaking 12-run defeat, chasing 313 against the Knights on Saturday.
The Rhinos, who batted first, never took off with their batting, with Kaber at the forefront, bowling a magnificent spell and bagging 5/13 in six overs.
The home side was dismissed for 143 (in the 29th over). Muhammed Mayet (60; 1x6, 10x4) and Yasser Cook (31; 6x4) were the top run scorers while Marcello Piedt (2/34 in 8.3 overs) added valuable support with the ball for the Badgers.
The Badgers reached the modest target of 144/5 in the 29th over. Blayde Capell (32; 1x6, 4x4), Matthew Christensen (31; 3x4) and an impressive Kelly Smuts (37 from 24 balls; 6x4) all contributed to steer the ship to an important victory.
In their next fixture the Badgers will host the Limpopo Impala at the Oudtshoorn Recreation Ground on the public holiday on Monday, 25 September.
