CRICKET NEWS - The Garden Route Badgers have maintained their winning streak with another impressive victory in the Cricket SA Division 2 T20 series.
George van Heerden and his troops secured a five-wicket victory against the dangerous Mpumalanga Rhinos at the Rec Cricket Stadium in Oudtshoorn on Saturday 8 November.
The Rhinos, who were put in to bat, were put under pressure by a fine bowling and fielding display and reached a below-par 124/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Herman Rolfes top-scored with 42 (41 balls). Liam Alder (3/26 in 4 overs) led the Badgers’ bowling effort with Kyle Jacobs (1/11 in 3 overs), who was equally impressive.
The Badgers’ run chase was solid, but they unfortunately missed the bonus point victory by one ball as they surpassed the target (128/5 in 16.1 overs).
Yaseen Valli (20 from 9 balls; 1x6, 3x4), Ruan Terblanche (27 from 28 balls; 2x6, 1x4), Heath Richards (19 from 17 balls; 1x6, 1x4) and Nathan Engelbrecht (28 from 23 balls; 4x4) all contributed with the bat.
For the Rhinos, their veteran, Aubrey Swanepoel bagged 2/14.
The Badgers, who have now won three out of four matches, have consolidated their third position on the log (12 points after four matches with games in hand). Their next match will be against the Eastern Storm in Oudtshoorn on Wednesday 12 November.
