GEORGE NEWS - Trail running enthusiasts of all levels in the Garden Route are invited to attend a trail running workshop at the Highlands Lodge Mountain Retreat in Waboomskraal on Saturday 1 March.
The workshop is hosted by popular George-based athlete Colleen Browne, a registered mountain guide and certified sports nutrition and UESCA ultra trail running coach.
Colleen emphasises that the workshop is for runners of all experience and fitness levels.
With the very popular George Mountain Ultra Trail (MUT) approaching at the end of May, this is an ideal opportunity for less experienced runners to arm themselves with valuable tips.
Following an optional, relaxed run in the morning, an in-depth information session will cover all of the essential topics, such as gear selection, nutrition advice, effective training methods and race preparation for the big day.
Whether you're a novice or an athlete selecting a new distance, Browne said she aims to create a 'safe space' where useful information is key, and where questions are welcomed.
"It's really a workshop for anyone and everyone, regardless of your level. Highlands Lodge is also welcoming family members of those attending the workshop, to come along and enjoy the facilities."
In a social media-driven marketplace where new athletes are bombarded with information trying to sell them unnecessary equipment and less-than-ideal training tips, this workshop presents an invaluable opportunity to engage one-on-one with Browne and put your mind at rest with solid advice.
Last year, Browne conquered what is arguably the world's toughest 100-mile trail run, the Ultra Trail Mont Blanc, or UTMB.
Covering a 176km distance and 9 915 metres of climbing, it is the crown jewel of international trail running.
