SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - The countdown is on as George prepares to welcome top duathletes from around South Africa for the 2025 SA Duathlon Championships, taking place on Saturday 12 July.
This national event will see around 200 athletes compete in the demanding run-bike-run format, set against the breathtaking hills and forests of Hoekwil.
Local organisers Eden Triathlon, in partnership with Chain Gang Events, say they are thrilled to host the event, with planning well underway for a smoothly run and exciting race day.
“We’re incredibly excited, and the planning has come together perfectly for what we believe will be a memorable event,” says Chain Gang's Juan Botes.
Even more exciting is the news that the organisers have secured the hosting rights for the SA Duathlon Champs for the next three years – a major boost for the local sports scene and economy.
While elite duathlon teams from around South Africa are set to compete, there's also an opportunity for everyday athletes to get involved: entries are open for the Sprint Open Category, which allows non-qualifiers to race alongside the country’s best.
Registration will take place on Friday, 11 July, at the Wilderness Hotel between 17:00 and 20:00, with a compulsory race briefing at 19:00.
No late entries or race-day registration will be accepted.
The action wraps up with a podium presentation and lively closing ceremony at Fairy Knowe Hotel at 18:00 on race day, where spectators and supporters are welcome to join the celebrations.
Whether you're competing, supporting, or just curious, this is one event that’s sure to ignite the local sporting spirit.
