GEORGE NEWS - Celebrated local marathon runner Lloyd Bosman was the winner of the men's 15km race in the Themba Kasi Run on Saturday morning, held in celebration of women's month.
Athletes of various age categories started from Thembalethu Stadium and took to the streets of Thembalethu in beautiful weather.
The first Themba Kasi Run took place in 2019 and had to take a break during Covid. According to the organiser, TWC member Siviwe Phikelela, they plan to make it an annual event and to grow it for the next generation of athletes. The plan is to attract more athletes, not only locally, but from the whole of South Africa.
The race was organised by Thembalethu Wellness Club (TWC) and supported by George Tourism, George Municipality, Africa Skills, Muzi FM, Hollywoodbets, Buco, Explore Our Hood and Top Gear.
Phikelela thanked all the stakeholders and locals for supporting the initiative. TWC is affiliated with the SWD Athletics Federation and Phikelela gave special thanks to the support of the federation.
Bosman said that it was good to be back in the Thembalethu race again, adding that the excitement of the supporters along the streets was amazing.
Radio personality Metro Tom applauded TWC for the excellent organisation of this year's Kasi run and was also impressed by the support from the Thembalethu community.
