SCHOOL SPORT - York High School’s first team squash boys made history when they became the school’s first squash team to qualify for the prestigious SA Top Schools Squash Tournament at Epworth School in Pietermaritzburg from 8 to 11 August.
The team earned its place at the national tournament after an outstanding regional campaign in which they won all their qualifying matches.
They then faced some of South Africa’s strongest school squash teams, with several matches going right down to the wire.
Despite not securing a match victory at the tournament, the York boys competed strongly and finished eighth in the SA Top Schools rankings.
They lost 1-4 to Selborne, before narrowly going down 2-3 to St John’s and 2-3 to Michaelhouse.
The team continued to fight hard against Midstream College, losing another closely contested match 2-3, and finished their tournament campaign with a 2-3 defeat to Grey High.
