SCHOOL NEWS - The Western Cape Education Department has confirmed that outcomes for on-time school admissions applications for Grade R, 1 and 8 in 2027 will be available from Thursday, 28 May.
Parents will be able to view the status of their applications as schools begin releasing placement offers.
Why some learners may not be placed immediately
The WCED has cautioned that the initial release of results may cause concern for parents whose children have not yet received an offer.
However, the department emphasised that this does not mean the process is complete.
Schools determine admissions outcomes based on their individual policies, and not the WCED itself.
At the start of the process, many learners hold more than one offer. In 2025, more than 40 000 learners were “double parked” on the system with multiple successful applications.
This temporarily limits available spaces at schools.
Movement expected as parents confirm placements
As parents begin confirming their preferred school choices, additional spaces will open up for other learners.
Parents have until 15 June to accept and confirm an offer, but are encouraged to do so as soon as possible to assist the process.
The department stressed that:
- The admissions process continues after initial results are released
- Significant movement in placements occurs in the following days and weeks
- Many learners who are initially unsuccessful are placed later
- Schools will contact parents directly when space becomes available
What parents should do now
Parents are encouraged to take the following steps:
- Accept one offer as soon as possible if multiple offers are received
- Keep in contact with schools applied to
- Ensure contact details are correct and up to date
- Remain patient while the process unfolds
The WCED reassured parents that placements are ongoing and that many learners will still be accommodated.
Call for patience during placement process
The department has appealed to parents for patience and understanding during this phase, adding that it is closely monitoring admissions to ensure every learner is placed.
Further updates and support will be provided as the process continues.
