SCHOOL NEWS - Outeniqua Primary School is celebrating a national achievement after winning the Squadron Supreme Elite Formation of Reading Aces Award at the 2026 Reading Riot National Literacy Competition.
The award is given to the school with the best average learner performance in reading fluency and comprehension.
Altogether 85 Grade Six learners of Outeniqua Primary took part in the competition, competing against thousands of learners from schools across South Africa.
The 2026 Reading Riot competition attracted 11 886 Grade Six learners from all nine provinces.
They competed through four stages, starting with an online national round before progressing to school and provincial rounds.
The top learners then competed in the national finals at the University of Pretoria on 27 June.
Reading Riot encourages learners to read fluently while also understanding what they read.
The competition focuses on reading for meaning, helping learners develop skills they can use across all subjects.
