NATIONAL NEWS - Four juvenile smooth houndsharks, born in Snorkel Lagoon at uShaka Sea World, 13 months ago, were released into the ocean at Shelly Beach last week.
Smooth houndsharks are seasonal visitors that typically make their way to the South Coast, from January to April.

A month after the sharks were born they were transferred into quarantine as it appeared that they were not feeding as well as they should have been, due to the competition from the other fish and sharks in the exhibit.
“The time in quarantine saw them flourish and they were soon back on display where they became very popular with visitors to the aquarium and the highlight of many a young (and not so young) snorkeler’s story.”

While these four sharks are back in the ocean, there are still four other smooth houndsharks remaining in Snorkel Lagoon.
Visitors are encouraged to look out for these predators next time they visit the aquarium.
