Judge Eberhard Bertelsmann granted an urgent order in the North Gauteng High Court to the group of 60 households. The judge ordered the municipality, Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform Gugile Nkwinti, and Mpumalanga housing authorities to provide alternative land to the group and their households for their provisional resettlement.
The authorities must also assist the squatters to resettle from their present occupation of the farm.
The owners of the farm obtained an eviction order against the group in November last year, but later agreed not to continue with execution steps against them, pending their urgent application for alternative housing.
