According to police, Constable Bruce Brits arrived at the scene shortly after the 36-year-old woman had jumped off the bridge at about 8pm.
Police spokesman Warrant Officer Gerda Swart said that shortly after Brits arrived at the scene, he found the woman lying face-down in the river below.
“Police members at the scene also summoned police divers to assist with the recovery of her body.
“While the officials were waiting for the divers to arrive, Brits noticed the victim moving.
“Without hesitation he jumped into the water and rescued the victim out of the icy cold water,” she said.
