NATIONAL NEWS - A 34-year-old Steve Biko hospital patient died after jumping from the sixth floor of the hospital yesterday.
Spokesperson Lovey Mogapi says the man jumped from the 6th floor and landed on the 3rd at around 13:10 in what is suspected to have been suicide.
“The patient sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the theatre.”
Mogapi did not give details as to whether he died on his way to theatre or after, but confirmed the patient was declared dead on Tuesday evening.
This is the third fall-related death to occur in a public space in Pretoria in about a month.
On Sunday, Menlyn Park shopping centre confirmed that another man suffered a fall-related death at the centre.
“At around 09:45 on 7 August, a tenant staff member fell from one of the upper levels at the Cavendish Court,” says centre general manager Nisha Kemraj, adding that an investigation by the Brooklyn police was underway.
On 7 July, shoppers and staff at Menlyn were left traumatised when a 31-year-old man succumbed to his injuries after falling from the top floor of the shopping centre.
Kemraj says the incident occurred in the early morning also at Cavendish.
