NATIONAL NEWS - Minister of Transport, Joe Maswanganyi has announced that South African motorists can expect to pay more in national licensing transaction fees in 2018.
In terms of The Road Traffic Management Corporation Act, local registering authorities (licensing centres) must pay the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) a transaction fee for each motorist it processes.
This is subsequently passed on to the applicant and added to the annual licence fee.
The fees will increase by R30 – from R42 to R72 – as of 1 February 2018, the department said.
This marks a significant increase compared to previous years with the fee going up a mere R6 rand since 2009.
Special classification vehicles qualifying for a concessionary nominal licence fee are typically exempt from this fee.
