NATIONAL NEWS - The Tshwane metro is investigating an incident in which a hippopotamus was hit and killed by a car in Centurion during Saturday night or Sunday morning.
The incident occurred near the Rietvlei Nature Reserve.
Tshwane metro spokesperson Sipho Stuurman said the metro was still establishing if the hippopotamus came from a Tshwane Department of Environment and Agriculture Management area.
“We are investigating the incident to establish if it’s one of our hippos and how all of this occurred,” he said.
The metro said nature conservation officials were activated to respond to the scene and they made arrangements for the hippo’s carcass to be removed from the roadside.
He said more information would be communicated on the matter when it became available.
