NATIONAL NEWS - In a statement shared via his official WhatsApp channel, Western Cape Education MEC David Maynier clarified that reports claiming the 2025 school calendar has been altered are entirely false.
“This is fake news,” he said. “The annual school calendar is set well in advance and officially gazetted by the national Minister of Basic Education.”
He pointed out that the national school calendars for 2025, 2026, and 2027 are publicly available on the Department of Basic Education’s website at www.education.gov.za (scroll to the bottom right of the homepage for access).
Maynier urged the public to verify such information only through official government channels.
