While already spotted on previous occasions wearing light levels of camouflage and the VW badge blacked out, the latest side image sees the Polo featuring the same Turmeric Yellow paint finish as the Arteon and Golf, with its newly found gain in width and size also highlighted in the form of the bigger rear doors.
Despite these gains, the Polo is expected to be lighter than the outgoing model thanks a variation of the flexible MQB platform known as A0 that already underpins the Seat Ibiza, while safety tech and equipment levels are set to vastly improve on those of the outgoing model.
Up front, and as previously reported, the Polo will also use the same range of engines as its Seat sibling, with petrol power coming from a 1.0 TSI, the 1.5 TSI Evo used in the Golf and a 1.6 TDI with the GTI expected to drop the current 1.8 TSI for the same 2.0 TSI that previously did duty in the Golf 6 GTI.
Base models will feature a five-speed manual gearbox as standard, with a six-speed manual and seven-speed DSG to offered on higher spec version.
