CONCEPT cars are usually showcased for the first time at international motor shows, or that used to be the case. Toyota has just unveiled an all-new open-top sports car at the Tokyo Toy Show.
Called the Camatte57s, it’s all about sharing ideas to build the ideal car, inspired by the fun that generations of mums, dads and kids have had making things together. It believes that involving youngsters in choosing the shape and look of a car will help these future drivers learn more about the fun aspects of motoring.
The car is made up of 57 small, lightweight and detachable panels that can be finished in a wide choice of different colours and designs.
The pedals and seats can be adjusted so that even children can drive, but parents have the option to interfere if their little ones veer off the road. It’s a great way to get kids used to driving early on in life. Not a bad idea, considering the quality of driving in South Africa…
Powered by an electric motor, the car measures 3 000mm long, 1 440mm wide and 1 000mm high and seats three.
