GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The Garden Route’s most talented up-and-coming young fine artists received recognition for their work at the South Cape Festival of the Arts visual arts exhibition, gala evening and prize-giving on Saturday night, 2 August.
The event, a true feast for the senses, was held at the picturesque Hoogekraal farm in Glentana. This historical property dates back to 1723.
The renovations of the Jonkmans Huis, where the gala evening was held, are under curatorship of Hoogekraal Educational Trust, overseen by Tienie Botha.
With more than 400 works of art on display, live music, scrumptious food and a variety of wines set against a spectacular golden sunset, the patrons’ eyes, ears and taste buds were pampered. Themed ‘Mysteries of the Deep’, the artworks featured all things ocean-related and were judged across five age levels, each inclusive of two to three grades ranging from grade R to adult.
Speaking at the prize-giving, the organiser, Tania Els, said the George Foundation of the Arts had great plans for arts and culture in George.
With the South Cape Arts Festival also incorporating music and dance, Els added they were excited for the Western art music and contemporary music components of the festival to get under way shortly.
