Update
GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Werner Gilroy, a wedding planner charged with fraud, made a brief appearance in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court today, 24 October.
Gilroy, who is from Mossel Bay, previously appeared in the court on 9 September, after he was summonsed on several fraud charges.
Today, the matter was postponed to Wednesday, 30 October, in order for Gilroy to secure legal representation,
Mossel Bay Advertiser and George Herald have previously published articles on Gilroy, the owner of the then Blue Lilies Wedding and Events company.
There was a flurry of phone calls from distressed brides from across the country, alleging he had defrauded them during 2020 and 2021 of thousands of rands, amounting to a total of about R1 million.
It was alleged the monies were deposited into Gilroy's account and he would continue with the wedding plans, only for the couples to discover later that most of the service providers had not been paid in full, it was alleged.
