GEORGE NEWS - The Electoral Commission (IEC) has announced a voter registration weekend for the upcoming Ward 16 by-election in the George Local Municipality. The residential areas include Andersonville, New Dawn Park and Smartie Town.
The by-election will take place on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, following the resignation of a councillor.
Eligible residents of Ward 16 are invited to register or update their voting details on Saturday 29 November, and Sunday 30 November, at the following registration station: Municipal Office, New Dawn Park, Cnr. Protea & Toermalyn Street, Pacaltsdorp between 08:00 and 17:00.
Currently, Ward 16 has 5,157 registered voters. Residents aged 16 and above can register, although only those 18 and older will be eligible to vote on election day. Voters must present a Green barcoded ID book, Smartcard ID, or valid Temporary Identity Certificate (TIC).
After the registration weekend, residents can still register online at www.elections.org.za or in person at the IEC local office until Friday 5 December at 17:00, when the voters’ roll for the by-election closes.
