On their way to Rondebosch the taxi was forced off the road by a vehicle (description of vehicle is unclear at this stage) with two occupants, who are believed to have also been at the club.
According to Van Wyk, the occupants of the vehicle then accused Schoombie and his friends of instigating the fight at the club.
"Despite the victims continuously informing the suspects that they were not involved in the altercation at the club, the suspects continued to attack them. The deceased was severely assaulted resulting in him sustaining severe head injuries.”
Schoombie was rushed to hospital, but at about 02:00 yesterday morning, Wednesday 25 November, he died. A case of murder has been opened at SAPS Rondebosch, but no arrests have been made.
Schoombie obtained a BSc Mechatronic Engineering degree from UCT graduating with honours in 2014. In 2010 Schoombie obtained a BComm in Management Sciences from the University of Stellenbosch. He matriculated from York High in 2006.
