GEORGE NEWS - A Tuiniqua Care Centre staff member tested positive for the coronavirus on Friday 26 June.
According to a letter that was sent out by the centre, this is their first positive Covid-19 patient.
“On conformation of the test results Tuiniqua immediately activated its emergency Covid-19 plans and implemented stringent safety protocols as directed by die National Department of Social Development and the National Department of Health,” says Tuiniqua’s manager, Alani Voigt.
The staff member didn’t experience any symptoms and was contacted to test for the virus after a family member, living in the same household, tested positive.
The staff member was immediately placed in self isolation.
Persons who may have had contact with the staff member have also been placed in quarantine with immediate effect.
“As an extra precaution, we are also limiting staff-to-resident contact wherever possible. The disaster management team immediately assisted the management of Tuiniqua overseeing the implementation of emergency plans. All public areas in the main building, as well as the frail care unit, has been sanitised already,” says Voigt.
