GEORGE NEWS - Members of the Methodist Church Women’s Manyano Thembalethu Society took to the streets in a silent walk against gender-based violence (GBV) on Thursday 24 September.
Led by Rev Thembeka Mkabeni, the women walked from the Thembalethu Police Station along Sandkraal Road to the Thembalethu Methodist Church of SA.
The walk was organised as a demonstration of love, unity, support and solidarity with victims and survivors of GBV.
The organisers said women and children continue to face abuse and violence, and that as church mothers they could no longer remain silent.
“We want every woman and child to know: you are not alone, your life matters, your voice matters and you deserve to be safe,” said Nokuzola Nana, one of the organisers.
They encouraged victims, survivors and witnesses of abuse to break the silence, seek help and report all forms of abuse.
The women also prayed for victims and survivors, asking for strength, courage and protection, while praying that perpetrators would recognise the harm caused by their actions and turn towards accountability and change.
“Today we raise our voices together in silence, but our message is loud and clear,” they said.
