GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEO - Flood damage following the heavy rainfall received last week has washed away a portion of the Blanco 350mm sewer line in the Malgas river upstream of the Gwaiing River. 

Civil Engineering Services is planning emergency repairs and all protocols have been followed. 

The Department of Water and Sanitation, as well as the Breede-Olifants Catchment Management Agency(BOCMA) have been notified.

The river, river mouth and beach are closed with immediate effect for swimming and other water activities until further notice as a precautionary measure.  

Civil Engineering Services are applying remedial measures, along with continuous testing of the Gwaiing River, Mouth and beach.
