GEORGE NEWS - Sussex delivered a knockout performance to outplay defending champions Pacaltsdorp United in the fourth-round clash of the Six Gun Grill SWD Premier League.
Despite some early wobbling at 55/5, Heath Richards steadied the innings with a game-changing century (100), partnering with the in-form Lindl Trim (62) to push Sussex to a competitive 231 all out on their home turf.
The visitors' chase never got off the mark, unravelling under the relentless bowling attack of Ravin Lee Kemmies, who claimed remarkable figures of 6/53.
Pacaltsdorp folded for a mere 124, handing Sussex a commanding 107-run victory. The bonus point secured in the win propelled Sussex to the top of the table.
Meanwhile, Union Stars lit up the scoreboard with a double victory, celebrating success on all fronts this weekend.
Union Stars I, at their home ground in Bridgton, posted 210 runs with Breyton Plaatjies contributing 79 before going on to dismiss their Oudtshoorn neighbours, Harlequins Forces, for 152 to record a 58 runs bonus point victory.
Union Stars II (132 all out), who travelled to Plettenberg Bay, outplayed Plett Pioneers (114 all out) for an 18 runs victory. For Union Stars II, their season campaigners, James Bruiners (5/35) and Marlin Masimela (4/29), were outstanding with the ball.
George (164/4) produced an excellent performance away from home as they chased down a competitive target against Knysna Cavaliers (153 all out). For George, Mark Andrianatos top-scored with 44.
