GEORGE NEWS - The hills around George and surrounds will come alive with more music by selecting Song vir Nonna as the beneficiary of the 2025 Algoa FM Charity Golf Day.
It will be hosted at the George Golf Club on Thursday 14 August, with a “safari” theme.
Funds raised at the golf day will go towards purchasing recording equipment to capture the songs penned by youngsters aged eight to 18, as well as a public address system for the concerts presented by the students, according to founder Regard Grobler.
Song vir Nonna runs weekly songwriting workshops at Môreson ACVV Child and Youth Care Centre and the Carpe Diem school for special needs.
There are plans to expand the programme to other Garden Route schools.
Graduates receive nationally recognised songwriting certificates and have the opportunity to perform their songs at concerts.
The songs are also made available for public sales through a unique platform on Song vir Nonna’s website, with 100% of the proceeds going into special investment accounts set up for each student for their future use.
“The better the quality of these recordings, the better their chances for successful song sales,” says Grobler.
“Song vir Nonna ticks all the boxes for Algoa FM as a music-driven station with a strong and growing presence in the Garden Route,” says Algoa FM marketing manager Lesley Geyer.
“We look forward to having the students perform at our charity golf day, and to raise the funds required through the support of the Garden Route business community and golfers,” she adds.

* Song vir Nonna is a non-profit organisation based in George that uses songwriting to empower orphans and children with special needs. Their main goal is to teach these children how to express their feelings through music, according to their website. They achieve this through songwriting workshops led by volunteers, helping children process emotions and develop coping skills.
