GEORGE NEWS - Concerned residents supplied George Herald with a photo of the state of the crossing between Airway and Witfontein roads which looked like a massive sinkhole.
In fact the hole was caused by a pipe-burst, which was immediately attended to.
Yesterday, Thursday 11 January, teams from George Municipality's Civil Services and Traffic Department spent time ensuring smooth traffic regulation while the pipe-burst was fixed.
In response to an enquiry earlier yesterday, communications officer Debra Sauer confirmed that the affected area is definitely not a sinkhole.
"It’s the same place where our teams were fixing a pipe-burst. The burst is fixed. Repairing of the road is underway," she said.
Despite a slight wobble when motorists cross the as-yet-untarred area, they can rest assured they are on solid ground.
