GEORGE NEWS - The Rotary Club of George invited one of the most well-known residents of the Garden Route to their meeting at the George Golf Club on Tuesday 27 September to speak about his newly released book. And what an excellent choice.
Daniël Janse van Rensburg, the author of Black Beach, had his audience in the palm of his hand. Janse van Rensburg, from Hoekwil, was released from the notorious Black Beach jail in Equatorial Guinea in 2015 after two years of just trying to stay alive after his wrongful arrest.
The official launch of his book is on Thursday in Hoekwil and on Friday in Wilderness. The launch at The Girls in Wilderness from 15:30 to 17:00 is open to the public.
Make sure you get this book - an absolutely fascinating read about the strength of the human spirit and the will to survive - even under the most harrowing circumstances.
Janse van Rensburg was introduced to the Rotarians on Tuesday by local author Julio Agrella the creator of the popular private detective, Zeus van Wyngaardt. And, although Agrella has never done jail time, he may well one day find himself behind bars due to his wicked sense of humour!
His second crime novel, Zeus van Wyngaardt en die skrikgodin, was released a month ago and has already achieved national critical acclaim.
Front from left: John-Dylan Pietersen (Rotarian), guest Ya Li, Di Kershaw (Rotary George president), Dr Annétia Heckroodt (director: club service) and former diplomat, now resident of George, Ismail Rahman. Back: Melanie and Daniël Janse van Rensburg and Wilhelm van der Vyver.
