GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - A tender was advertised by Transnet on 6 April 2023 to invite interested respondents to submit bids to rehabilitate the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe railway line that was damaged by a severe flood in 2006.
Garden Route District Municipality (GRDM) this morning issued a statement in which it confirms that an award letter was issued for the tender on 28 August 2024.
"At the moment contract negotiations are underway," says the GRDM.
The branch line between George and Knysna is 67km long and it is envisaged to attract rail cargo like waste and timber, in addition to being a huge tourist attraction.
More information will follow as it becomes available.
