GEORGE NEWS - A public session regarding the proposed survey activities off the coast in Block 11B/12B, between Mossel Bay and Cape St Francis, will be held in the Rosemoor Community Hall from 15:00 to 19:00 on Tuesday 15 July.
The environmental consultants, SLR Consulting, have announced that the draft environmental and social impact assessment (Esia) report will be open for public review from 14 July to 14 August.
Documents are available online (including data-free access), and a printed copy at the George Library. A non-technical summary is available in English, Afrikaans and Xhosa.
The project applicant, Main Street 1549, has applied for environmental authorisation to conduct offshore surveys - including sonar, bathymetry and seafloor sampling - in a marine area up to 190km offshore. These surveys aim to gather critical data to inform potential future energy development.
A series of public open days will be held in towns from Mossel Bay to St Francis Bay between 14 and 22 July, where community members can informally engage with the Esia team. An online session via Microsoft Teams is scheduled from 14:00 to 17:00 on 24 July.
A revised social and labour plan outlining commitments to skills development and community upliftment has also been prepared and will be available for comment during the same period.
Stakeholders are encouraged to review these documents and submit their comments by 14 August. For more information or to register for meetings, visit www.slrconsulting.com (under the 'public documents' section), send an email to 11b12bsurveys@slrconsulting.com or WhatsApp 071 586 5881.
