GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Garden Route Crime Combatting Team members deployed in Thembalethu led to the confiscation of ammunition and the arrest of a suspect, while Knysna police arrested three more suspects in separate incidents involving suspected stolen copper cables.
According to the Office of the Provincial Commissioner in the Western Cape, members of the Garden Route Crime Combatting Team were deployed in Thembalethu, George, as part of ongoing crime combatting operations when they made the discovery on Thursday 14 May at about 16:00.
Police were conducting patrols in Zone 07, Thembalethu, when they received information about ammunition allegedly being stored at a premises in 29 Street, Thembalethu. Members followed up on the information and searched the identified address.
During the search, police found R5 rifle rounds and three rifle rounds hidden under a mattress in a bedroom. Officers also discovered 20 (twenty) 9mm hollow-point rounds concealed in a sling bag.
A 32-year-old man who was inside the residence was unable to provide an explanation for the possession of the ammunition and was arrested for the unlawful possession of ammunition.

In an unrelated matter on the same day, Knysna police arrested three suspects for possession of suspected stolen property after copper cables were found in their possession in two separate incidents.
Members cornered two men, aged 36 and 46, in Akker Lane, Brackenhill, Knysna, and a search of the pair led to the discovery of copper. A third suspect, aged 25, was arrested after he was found at a scrap yard in Agter Street, Hornlee, Knysna, with copper in his possession.
Police said the origin of the copper forms part of an ongoing investigation and that additional charges could be added as the investigation unfolds.
All four suspects remain in police custody and are expected to appear in the George and Knysna Magistrates’ Courts on their respective charges once formally charged.
