GEORGE NEWS - George Municipality has welcomed Ismail Patel to the team as its new senior manager of community safety, a role he officially took up on 1 August.
With more than 35 years in law enforcement, Patel brings a wealth of experience - and a career that started remarkably early.
He joined the South African Police Service at just 19 and has since worked his way through operational and senior management roles across various spheres of government.
His career has taken him to Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, the Eastern Cape Department of Transport, the Road Traffic Management Corporation and the City of Cape Town, giving him extensive experience on the frontline of road safety, traffic law enforcement, public safety and regulatory compliance.
In his new role, Patel will oversee a broad portfolio, including fire and rescue services, disaster management, traffic services, law enforcement and public safety.
He holds an LLB, BTech in Policing and National Diploma in Police Administration, along with qualifications in traffic management, metro policing and driving licence examination. He also has more than 15 years of experience in middle and senior management.
George Municipality says it looks forward to his contribution towards strengthening community safety and taking service delivery to the next level across the municipal area.
