GEORGE NEWS - The Eden and Central Karoo Education District (Ecked), led by Director Jewel Jonkers, received a third place for excellence in district leadership and management at the National Education Excellence Awards in Johannesburg last Friday, 29 November.
To top it all, another third place was received by Isalathiso Primary School (Mossel Bay) in the category recognising outstanding upkeep and maintenance of school facilities.
Isalathiso Primary School won a trophy, certificate and laptop. "This Quintile 2, no-fee school is setting the standard for school environments in low-income areas," said Kerry Mauchline, spokesperson to Western Cape Minister of Education David Maynier.
Jonkers said these awards on national level are phenomenal. "As a rural district covering almost 50% of the whole Western Cape geographical area for education, it is indeed an enormously proud moment for Ecked," he said.
"A very big thank you from the bottom of my heart to all schools, principals, educators, learners, public service staff, and management team of the Eden and Central Karoo Education District."
