GEORGE NEWS - George Municipality has as of last week implemented an internal hygiene and coronavirus awareness campaign for all staff, applying various communication channels available, including information sessions and e-mail campaigns.
According to municipal spokesperson Chantel Edwards-Klose, members of the public accessing the municipal buildings are requested to sanitise their hands with materials made available.
"An operational management committee has been called, which will deal with all matters of risk applicable to our staff, and members of the public accessing our buildings, during the following three months including the conducting of council and other meetings," said Klose.
"It must be noted that Council goes on recess this Friday, 20 March. In line with the declaration of a national disaster, all municipal sport facilities including the public swimming pool are closed with immediate effect. This is a developing situation however, and amendments will be made as and when required."
Ward committee elections
Ward committee elections scheduled from Tuesday 17 March until 21 April have been postponed until further notice in line with the coronavirus protocol.
The municipality remains committed to ward committee participation and will announce new dates for elections in due time.
