GEORGE NEWS - Mia Andries, finance manager and board member at Life Community Services (LCS), is an inspiration to all who know her.
Her journey at Life, a non-profit organisation (NPO) serving children in poor George communities, began as a receptionist in 2018. Through dedication and a real passion for serving others, she has progressed to the position of finance manager. She also serves on the LCS executive committee and board.
Andries studied social work, but found that her interest actually lay in accounting. She worked in the restaurant and aircraft industries, gaining experience in food handling, customer service, management, aircraft manufacturing and maintenance, reception work and bookkeeping. But she was looking for a work environment that aligns with her core beliefs and applied to Life.
She hasn't looked back. "Today I am living out my calling," she says.
These days, Andries takes part in crucial decision-making towards achieving the organisation's mission, manages funds, assists with preparing fundraising proposals, and supports the CEO, founders and staff, among others.
She says running an NPO means you work with a low-income budget dependent on monetary donations. This is stressful, but they witness daily miracles when food stretches to meet the needs of the children.
At Life, she has had opportunities to do designing work, socialise with donors at events, and travel to the USA. But her most joyful activity is to share her flag worship ministry with the children.

Life's CEO, Maryna de Vries, says Mia is an inspiration to many and a woman of integrity and strength. "She has earned the promotions to the place where she is, but never lost her humility and never will compromise on her commitment to the Lord. She is fun and brings light into a room."
Andries is also a devoted wife and mother of three. Her husband, André, and children volunteer at LCS and the family enjoy beach-hopping, hiking, games and karaoke. She does not see work and home life as separate, but says in both, she is fulfilling her purpose in serving others.
