GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - As the Class of 2026 prepares for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) final exams, matriculants are reminded to familiarise themselves with the exam rules to avoid unnecessary stress or complications.
Here is a handy checklist of what to bring, what to leave at home and what to remember when writing.
Pens and stationery
- Use blue or black ink only.
- No coloured pens or highlighters may be used in answer books, including for headings.
- Highlighting is permitted on question papers only.
- No correction fluid (Tippex) or erasable ink pens.
- Pencil bags must be transparent, with no writing or labels.
Use blue or black ink only.
Identification and documents
- Bring your exam admission letter and identity document to every exam.
- Have your candidate number stickers ready, as instructed by your school.
Never write your name or the name of your school in your answer book or written responses unless specifically instructed to do so. This is especially important for English Paper 3, written on Thursday 15 October, which may require formal letters, articles or other transactional writing.
Food and water
- Water must be in a clear bottle without labels.
- Where permitted by the school, quiet snacks such as sweets, biltong or nuts may be brought in transparent containers or ziplock bags.
- No branded sweet packets, labelled containers or other packaging with writing on them.
Check your school’s rules regarding food in the exam venue.
Electronic devices
- No cellphones, smartwatches or other unauthorised electronic devices are allowed in the exam venue.
- Leave these items at home or in the designated storage area.
Before entering the examination venue
- Arrive early and allow enough time to settle in.
- Check that you have the correct stationery and documents.
- Follow the exam invigilators’ instructions.
- Read each question carefully and manage your time wisely.
Remember that exam regulations are strictly enforced. Learners should always follow the official instructions provided by their schools and exam authorities.
Good luck, Class of 2026! Stay calm, stay focused and give it your best!
