WILDERNESS NEWS - Groundbreaking research on the elusive caracal will be the focus of an upcoming talk presented by Dr Zanri Strydom and hosted by Save the Wild in Wilderness next month.
The team at Dunefields Private Nature Reserve on Paradise Ridge has become the first to develop a way to identify individual caracals, despite the species’ lack of distinctive spots, by using a completely non-invasive method.
This work is shedding new light on the caracals living in the region, revealing how many roam the area and what prey species sustain their populations in the local dune ecosystem.
Residents and visitors are invited to learn more at a special presentation taking place at the Fairy Knowe Hotel on Tuesday 23 September.
