GEORGE NEWS - A recent incident where a homeless person attacked a law enforcement officer with a knife, posed the question whether our law enforcement officials are equipped to work with and handle such dangerous situations.
"Yes they are," says municipal spokesperson Chantel Edwards-Klose. "They are equipped with the necessary personal protective equipment, bullet-proof vests, firearms, and other non-lethal instruments to deal with potentially dangerous situations. If the matters they are dealing with are crime related, they act with the assistance of the police."
Edwards-Klose says all law enforcement officers, besides their initial law enforcement training, undergo annual refresher firearm training as prescribed by legislation.
"They are capable and trained to defend themselves, but will always first opt for non-lethal methods of defence. The training of all law enforcement officers is ongoing."
